Wicked Lands In Louisville KY ~ Whitney Hall

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

There may be no place like home, but there will be no place like the Kentucky Center ~ Whitney Hall in Louisville, KY when Wicked, the Musical hits the stage.  Wicked, based on the novel by Gregory Macguire, reveals to us the incredible and unlikely friendship between the two famous witches of Oz. Apparently, there was a lot going on before Dorothy decided to make a visit.  Monkeys didn’t fly, the Tin Man had a heart, and the good witch and the green witch were the best of friends.

The heartwarming story is told to us through the music and lyrics of Academy Award-winner Stephen Schwartz.  With songs like “Popular”, “Defying Gravity”, and “For Good”, the audience is swept up in a whirlwind of emotion, eliciting laughter, chills, and tears.  Donna Vivino made her Broadway debut at age 8, when she starred as Cosette in Les Miserables.  Now she is busy reserving her right to fly as the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba.   The ever so happy Glinda is brought to life by Chandra Lee Schwartz, whose credits include Hairspray and the Bernadette Peters revival of Gypsy.  The man behind the curtain is magically portrayed by Richard Kline, who most of us know as Larry from Three’s Company.

If you are in the Louisville area, you will have the chance to see Wicked from May 5-23, 1010.  You do not want to miss it!  You can find your best deals at www.wickedticketsny.net.  Use the code word “wicked” to get 5% off of your entire Wicked Ticket purchase.

The Academy Of MusicSomewhere over the rainbow, two witches, the good one and the green one, became best friends while attending school in Oz.  You may be wondering how, or you may be wondering why they didn’t appear to be friends in the classic Wizard of Oz.  Well, let’s just say there was much more going on in Oz when Dorothy landed than we could ever tell.  Wicked, directed by Tony Award winner Joe Mantello, is the story of what was going on behind the emerald curtain and how two friends would sacrifice anything, even their friendship, to end the corruption of Oz.

Wicked comes to the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, PA at the beginning of 2010.  Experiencing one of Broadway’s most incredible musicals in a newly renovated and restored theater, including a restored crystal chandelier, is a great way to ring in the New Year.  Marcie Dodd, coming straight from the Broadway production, portrays Elphaba, the character better known as the Wicked Witch of the West.  The beautiful and popular Glinda is brought to life by Helen Yorke, who has graced the Broadway stage in Grease.  Marilyn Caskey, whose Broadway credits include Gypsy and Phantom of the Opera, takes on the powerful role of Madame Morrible.  And the “man behind the curtain” is portrayed by Tom McGowan, who has also been on Broadway, but is well-known as Bernie, Raymond’s friend on the popular TV show Everybody Loves Raymond.

Long before Elmira Gulch stole Toto from Dorothy, two young girls became friends in Oz. One was green and one was popular. Needless to say, the green girl later became known as the Wicked Witch of the West, and the popular girl was cherished in Oz as the Good Witch. The story of Elphaba and Glinda’s friendship is revealed in Wicked, featuring music and lyrics by Steven Schwartz, and is coming to the State Theatre in downtown Cleveland, OH.  Opening its doors in 1921, the State Theatre is one of several theatres making up Playhouse Square, which is a non-profit performing arts community. Its location among shops, hotels, and restaurants makes for a wonderfully unique day or night at the theatre.

Wicked’s promising company is led by Chandra Lee Schwartz, credits including Hairspray and High School Musical touring companies, and Donna Vivino, who can be heard on the CD recording of Les Miserables at age 8 as Cosette.  This wonderfully written story of two best friends will not only stimulate your senses, but will also touch your heart.

Wicked, One of Broadway’s Most Powerful Musicals

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Somewhere over the rainbow, we have all followed the Yellow Brick Road.  In our journey, we have met the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and ahhhh shucks, that cute Cowardly Lion.  But did we ever stop to think why our friends had to search for a brain, a heart, and just a wee bit of courage???  Did we ever wonder what was going on in Oz BEFORE Dorothy landed on the Wicked Witch of the East?  And what was so important about those shoes?  I mean, we know they were magical, but why?

Wicked, one of Broadway’s most powerful musicals to date, answers these and several other questions about Oz that you never thought to ask.  Its web of magic, color, and intrigue imports us to a time when the animals of Oz could speak, the Tin Man had a heart, and Elphaba and Glinda were not yet “witches”, but rather two good friends.  Two BEST friends.

Because so many of us are drawn to the notion of “what happened before Dorothy dropped in”, tickets for Wicked are extremely hard to find.   Not only is Wicked selling out on Broadway, but also in cities across the country…maybe even in your hometown!

Wicked Tickets NY has discount wicked tickets for all shows in all locations, from New York City to Seattle, and even in Kansas.
