Discretion is advised to ensure any child attending a performance is of an appropriate age so as to be able to sit quietly and not create any distraction for other audience members.

Except for family shows specifically targeted to children, it is best not to bring younger children to performances. Often, the content of the performance may be intended for more mature audiences or sound levels for a show may be too extreme for young children’s comfort.

Additionally, all guests must have their own ticket, including children, and all tickets must be located in the same seating area. For certain shows, there may be minimum age requirements.

At all San Diego Opera performances, children under the age of six years will not be allowed in to the Theatre.

General Policy Information

Late arrivals will be required to remain in the lobby areas until an appropriate seating break in the performance, as determined by the show management or producers. This may be for just the duration of a few minutes for an opening number or may, as for all San Diego Opera performances, be for the entire first act of the performance.

Lobby monitors are available to view most on-stage performances.

City Ordinance prohibits public smoking in all areas of the Theatres. For certain productions, there may be smoking on stage as part of the performance. For guests with an aversion to smoke, the Orchestra sections may not be the best areas for seating.

Cameras, audio, digital and video recordings of any type during a performance are not allowed.

As a courtesy to all patrons, please silence all pagers, cell phones, watches and alarms.

There are no paging systems in the Theatres. If there is a possibility someone will need to contact you during a performance, the best way is via your personal cell phone or pager.

Special effects are part of many performances and may include the use of Strobe Lights (flicker-sensitive patrons), Haze and Smoke machines, Cigarette and Cigar smoke, etc. Should you have a sensitivity regarding any of these theatrical effects, please check the individual Event Information pages on this site or contact Ticketing Services for specific information. Please be aware we may only become aware of the use of such effects close to the actual performance date.
